While Supergrass’s music was bursting with enough personality on its own — a frantic explosion of energy, humour, hooks, and sonic references to everyone from The Beatles to Roxy Music — the band’s visuals, including videos directed by Danny’s brother Nic Goffey, were as eccentric and quintessentially British as elements of the trio’s collective, pre-band CV: dinner lady, labourer, Harvester restaurant employee. Quickly, Supergrass proved masters of pulling off the delicate balancing act between being cartoonish without ever becoming caricatured. At one point there was a close encounter with Steven Spielberg in which the director attempted, unsuccessfully, to persuade the band that they could be the new Monkees. (Supergrass weren’t prudes, just highly selective: Alright did make it onto the Clueless soundtrack.)

That feeling, age-old but utterly modern, is there in spades in An Ocean Full of Islands, on standouts like the rousing, carousing romance of These Days, the sparkling, stately grandeur of Written in the Scars and the accordion-and-acoustic poetic pen-portraiture of Maybe Everyone Knows. These are songs, exquisitely written, sung and performed, that are both expansive and inclusive.

The multi-platinum success of The Hoosiers 2007 debut Number 1 album, “The Trick to Life”, and Top-10 singles such as “Worried About Ray” and “Goodbye Mr. A”, raised huge expectations for its follow-up, the prophetically titled “The Illusion of Safety”, which reached Number 10 in the UK charts in 2010.
Tension, creativity, democracy, arguments, time apart, coming back together, and then songs. Lots of them. Gone is the self-consciousness of the dog days around their second album; gone, too, the self-doubt. In their place is a deeply rooted – and hard-won – confidence, and a determination to lock back in to the freedom and joy of the early days.

Katie Gregson-MacLeod was just eight years old when she first sang solo in public. At the Inverness Music Festival, she performed one of her own songs, the aptly titled ‘Different’. Now, thanks to a life-changing summer, Katie’s songs are being produced by Grammy Award winners and her fans include stars of pop, stage and screen. “I found a video of that performance recently and, you know what, I wasn’t bad,” laughs the 21 year old who is about to become a household name. “The song had structure, a middle eight, proper chords. I don’t know who broke that little kid’s heart, but she was really going for it.” For as long as she can remember, Katie has composed songs, poems and short stories. From her early teens, inspired by Amy Winehouse, she knew that a career in music was her future.
This summer the earthquake hit. The first tremor was ‘Second Single Bed’, Katie’s first song to be played on Radio 1. Just weeks later, home for the holidays between playing festivals and working in her local coffee shop, Perk, TikTok turned Katie’s life upside down, literally overnight. On the evening of August 4th, having written a raw break-up song called ‘complex’ in a couple of hours on the family piano days earlier, she posted 45 seconds of the chorus to the platform that she had learnt to use in lockdown and went to bed. By morning, tens of thousands had shared it and hundreds of covers had already been posted. Camila Cabello, Tom Walker, Lennon Stella, Madison Beer and the actress Rachel Zegler were among those who made their own versions. FINNEAS, Fletcher and Lewis Capaldi were fans. Newspapers reported the story when A&Rs turned up to Perk to try to sign the Scot. By the time she signed to Columbia, every major label in the UK and US had been in touch and the New York Times had run a feature.

Fans of The East Pointers have Koady Chaisson to thank for being the kinetic force behind the JUNO-Award winning indie-folk trio since the group formed in 2014. The dancefloor-shaking, electro-trad glorious combination of folk/pop has brought so much joy to audiences around the world. And now, even posthumously, Koady’s energetic fire continues to blaze the musical trail onward.
It was on January 6, 2022 that Koady Chaisson of The East Pointers passed away from an unexpected heart aneurysm at 37. Those who were lucky to have been influenced by his creative and generous soul felt like a black hole had suddenly formed where the supernova of Koady’s light had been.
But before his passing, Koady, Tim Chaisson, and Jake Charron, had recorded most of the tracks for two new EPs. Unlike any of the The East Pointers’ material to date, these precious songs are shiny and melodic, nostalgia-flared, folk experimental pop but with the same driving trad hooks for which the band has become known and revered.
The first EP, House of Dreams, was released in September 2022 and was nominated for a JUNO Award in 2023. The second EP, Safe In Sound, was released in November 2023.

The Joy Hotel played their first at The Blue Arrow in Glasgow, which sold out through word-of-mouth alone, as did their next three hometown headline performances at McChuill’s, King Tut’s and St. Luke’s, doubling the venue size with each show and selling every ticket they put on sale.
In October of 2021, the band spent eleven days at Rockfield, the legendary studio in Monmouth, Wales, recording live-to-tape. When they left, they had a sound. It is often contradictory, in that it combines the songwriting sensibilities of pop and country with arrangements reminiscent of the psychedelic scene of the 60s, six-part vocal harmonies with elements of noise rock, beautiful balladry with a sense of humour, and is cinematic even when stripped of any visual aspects.

Casey was born in Chesterfield, a market town in the English midlands, an only child with a penchant for the spotlight. Growing up, he was exposed to the greats of early 00s English pop culture, like Gareth Gates and Robbie Williams – two men who set the mould for what he thought he wanted to be. His mother, keen for him to follow that musical path, signed him up to clarinet classes. He played for eight years, all while his musical taste became a little more refined, listening to pop-leaning indie bands, before eventually becoming an Arctic Monkeys boy. “But I can't say it ever crossed my mind that I wanted to be a professional clarinettist,” Casey says. “I just wanted money.”
After four back to back sold out world tours including the prestigious KOKO in London, Casey Lowery could be Chesterfields best kept secret. With over 5 million followers online the tongue in cheek songwriter has finally put pen to paper on an extended project with ‘Not Ready' being the first track.

James Emmanuel’s journey into music began with a gentle nudge from his father, a preacher in Nigeria, who noticed his son could use some grounding amid the challenges of youth. James joined the church gospel choir, where he discovered his love for singing that carries him through difficult times. At 16, after his father’s passing, he took on a new responsibility staying home to support his mother. Later, he set out for the UK on his own, working as a cleaner in a sports bar, where his love for music came alive again. Singing while he worked, he caught attention and soon earned the role of running the bar’s karaoke.
Edinburgh is where he found a true musical home. His warm, soulful performances have become a mainstay at The Jazz Bar, and his gratitude for Edinburgh's embrace shines in his track, “Nothing But Love For This City.” Inspired by the challenges he’s overcome and his sense of peace and belonging, he released “Lonesome Man,” a heartfelt debut that resonated far and wide, reaching U.S. radio waves and a wider audience.
James’ music is rooted in life’s simple truths—family, resilience, and the power of community. Wise beyond his years, he brings authenticity to each performance, filling rooms with a joy and presence that reflect his 10,000 hours of dedication to his craft.

Iona Zajac is a formidable presence, particularly when it comes to her live performance. Her music seamlessly blends folk, indie and alternative genres with an authentic grit that has captivated audiences across Europe. There is an uncompromising ferocity that courses through her songs; fucked up love affairs, consent (or lack thereof), weird dreams and wild sex, delivered with a tender, powerful voice and impenetrable stare.
Zajac has built a reputation for the intense beauty of her solo work but also performs with the powerful backing of her full band which includes Eleanor Mason (Voka Gentle, Paolo Nutini, Billie Marten) & Joe Taylor (Anna B Savage, Penelope Isles), whom both feature on her recently recorded and highly anticipated debut album. You can expect nods to solo bedroom EP, ‘Find Her in the Grass’, but darker themes are now accompanied by pulsating drone synths and drum builds, at times ascending into enraged cries and chaos.
2022/23 was spent mainly on the road, touring with the likes of LANKUM, Billy Nomates, Arab Strap, Anna B Savage, The Cinematic Orchestra, Hamish Hawk and Idlewild.
